Balmoral Ōtautahi ’Superhome’ built with SPEEDFLOOR®

This recently completed architecturally designed home on Balmoral Lane, Christchurch, is a stunning example of the Superhome Movement and the pivotal role SPEEDFLOOR^® Suspended Concrete Flooring can play.

The Superhome Movement is a non-profit, industry-lead group that aims to ensure new NZ homes are healthier and more energy efficient while promoting environmental, economic, and socially sustainable practices.

For this build, the architect and a driving force behind the Superhome Movement, Bob Burnett, made the significant decision to go with a SPEEDFLOOR^® Suspended Concrete Floor system for the mid-floor. With an integrated approach to the design, all systems and materials were chosen for their efficiency and quality, enhancing the thermal performance and seismic resilience of the structure. While common in commercial builds, the SPEEDFLOOR^® solution is now gaining traction among residential architects too, because of its speed, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness.

In this instance, using a SPEEDFLOOR® Suspended Concrete Floor system not only provided a strong yet quick build, but it also allowed the upper floors to take advantage of efficient hydronic underfloor heating while providing noise control for the second dwelling below.
