Luna Apartments

Most earthquake resistant buildings in New Zealand are rectangular, but the one designed by Architect+, for 164 The Terrace, Wellington, had an unusual diaphragm; it was “H” shaped. The reason was that Montreaux would be apartments and the “H” formation would optimise light and airiness for the tenants.

Built on a ridge above Auckland this well known apartment building has stunning views of Auckland City and the Waitemata harbour. With two levels of basement parking, concrete inter-tenancy walls and Speedfloor spanning wall to wall, there was no other structural elements required. No propping during construction allowed levels to be added quickly and services to be installed as the building took shape.
